Timberline Lodge Winter Pass Holders Can Ski Through June 14

TIMBERLINE LODGE, OR - Timberline Lodge is kicking off its world famous summer ski and snowboard season and is now offering its current pass holders a special one time value this year - a taste of summer skiing and riding.  All current holders of Timberline Full Winter and Spring Season Passes, or the Mt. Hood Fusion Passes will now be able to ski on their pass through June 14. These passes were originally scheduled to expire on Memorial Day.

Hunt leaves U.S. Ski Team to Lead Park City Racing Program

PARK CITY, UT  – U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Alpine Director Jesse Hunt is leaving the organization to take over leadership of the Park City Ski Team, a USSA club program, according to USSA Vice President, Athletics, Luke Bodensteiner. Hunt is a former national team member who has worked for the USSA as a coach and program director for 16 years.

Hunt, a Burlington, VT native who was twice named Ski Racing Magazine's Junior Alpine Skier of the Year, began coaching with the U.S. Ski Team in the 1993-94 season and was named men's head slalom and giant slalom coach in 1998. He took over leadership of the overall alpine program at the USSA after the 2002 Olympics.

Hunt will be taking over as general manager and program director of the Park City Ski Education Foundation, where he coached for three years in the early '90s before moving to the U.S. Ski Team.

Economic downturn on ski industry unprecedented says report

McLean, VA - The impact of the economic downturn on the snow sports market was unprecedented, according to a report published by Snowsports Industries America.  Overall, the snow sports market sales declined 5% in dollars and 3% in units for the 2008/09 season.

Squaw Valley ski team named 2009 Alpine Ski Racing Club of the Year

SQUAW VALLEY, CA - For the second time in four years the Squaw Valley Ski Team was awarded Alpine Ski Racing Club of the year by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association. The awards will be presented at the USSA Congress 2009 Chairman’s Awards Dinner on May 15.

“The club of the year is presented to a USSA Competition Club in each sport, which has distinguished itself in providing direction to young athletes through high-level competition programs resulting in athletic success,” USSA CEO Bill Marolt wrote in a letter to the winning clubs.

Snowbird open for skiers and riders through Memorial Weekend

SNOWBIRD, UT - With over 600 inches of snow this season, Snowbird still has plenty of the white stuff around for skiers and riders that want to get in some last minute runs.  The following is Snowbird's Spring  schedule through Memorial Weekend:

Through – Sunday, May 10th
Open Lifts: Little Cloud, Mineral Basin Express and the Tram.

Hours will be: 9am-3pm.

Monday, May 11th
Snowbird will now be open for skiing and riding Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Will also be open the Monday of Memorial Day)

Friday, May 15th – Sunday, May 17th
Open Lifts: Mineral Basin Express, Little Cloud and the Tram.

Hours of operation will be based on weather conditions.

Friday, May 22nd – Monday, May 25th (Memorial Day Weekend)
The Tram will start its summer passenger schedule.

Open Lifts: Mineral Basin Express, Little Cloud and the Tram.

Spring Skiing operations will be subject to weather, mountain conditions, business levels, and construction schedules and may be cancelled due to poor conditions or lack of snow.

Snowbird Resort hosts Bluegrass Camp for Kids July 8-10

SNOWBIRD, UT - Snowbird Resort will host its first annual Bluegrass Camp for Kids, July 8-10. The camp is part of Snowbird’s new Mountain Music Festival, which runs July 8-12 and will feature nationally renowned acts such as the Cowboy Junkie’s, Son Volt, Old 97’s, The SteelDrivers and more.

“The Snowbird Mountain Music Festival is an expansion of the musical and entertainment offerings that the Folk & Bluegrass Festival provided in Little Cottonwood Canyon for 20 years,” said Snowbird Renaissance Center general manager and festival presenter Teri Mumm. “This new Bluegrass Camp for Kids program is a fantastic way for children to pick up an instrument, receive top-notch instruction and have tons of fun in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains.”

Mt. Bachelor blows out ski season with annual Pond Skim Championships

MT. BACHELOR, OR - Mt. Bachelor will blow out the ski season on May 17 with their 8th Annual North American Pond Skimming Championships. The traditional Pond Skim is the marquis event based on style, costume and making it across the pond. 

Also added to event is the Splash for Cash. The event is somewhat like the high-jump competition. A target will be held over the pond in one place for a round of competitors to try and hit it as they jump into the pond. If you hit it, you move on, if you don't, you are wet and you are done.
