VAIL, CO - TJ Lanning (Park City, UT), who was injured
Saturday during a crash in the opening downhill of the Audi FIS Alpine
World Cup season, was transferred Monday to the Vail Valley Medical
Center in Colorado. According to U.S. Ski Team Medical Director Richard
Quincy, Lanning suffered a dislocated left knee and non-displaced
fracture of a vertebra in his neck.
The Team's international medical services provider Global Rescue managed the transfer. Lanning is undergoing further tests with specialists at the Vail Valley Medical Center and Steadman-Hawkins Clinic there to determine the best rehabilitation strategy.
"As an athlete and a patient, TJ is quite a fighter, determined to complete this recovery process. He's persistent and aggressive with the doctors with an approach and spirit that is extremely good," said Quincy. "We don't anticipate any problems with his neck and doctors will evaluate the best next steps to repair his knee injury."
Lanning's teammates are in town for the Audi Birds of Prey World Cup Friday through Sunday at nearby Beaver Creek.
